Description

Floyd's Corner consists of a late 18th-century building on Surrey Street, originally comprising nine windows across Nos. 31 to 37 (odd). The building is constructed of red brick with grey brick headers visible at the rear of No. 33. A modillion cornice runs along the top, terminating in a parapet. The windows on Nos. 31 and 37 have slightly cambered heads, while Nos. 33 and 35 feature segmental heads. The original glazing bars remain intact, except on the ground floor. Modern shop fronts now occupy No. 31. No. 33 includes a small shop window. Canted bay windows have been added to the ground floors of Nos. 35 and 37.

A doorway has been inserted into a former window of No. 31, leading to a door with six panels and a rectangular fanlight above. Nos. 33 and 35 feature double doorways, each with pilasters and Adam-style decoration below open dentil pediments, topped with semi-circular fanlights. No. 37 has a Doric pilastered doorcase with a pediment and panelled reveals, housing a six-panelled door. No. 37 is set back slightly from Nos. 31 to 35. A fire insurance mark of the Royal Exchange, dated 1784, is visible on No. 33. An incised stone bearing “Surrey St” is also present on No. 33.

Nos 31 to 37 (odd) form a group.
