Description

This is a pair of houses located on Church Street in Shoreham-by-Sea, dating from the early to mid-18th century. The houses are constructed of cob with a painted brick plinth band, plat band, quoins, and dressings. The front is rendered above a plinth, which is only present on the right-hand house (No 11). A wooden eaves cornice sits below the roof, which is covered in slate to the left and tiles to the right, with one flat-headed dormer window to the left and two gabled dormers to the right. The houses have end stacks and a central stack to the rear. They are two storeys and an attic, forming symmetrical compositions, although the central window of the left-hand house has been blocked. There are six windows in total, with a blocked window second from the left on the first floor. The ground floor has four windows, each with brick segmental heads. All windows are glazing bar sashes within brick surrounds. The entrances are located in the second and fifth bays, and feature panelled doors with panelled reveals and flat, dentilled hoods supported by pilasters topped by brackets.
