Description

Upper Street Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are a house and barn complex dating from the 16th century, with extensions made at the end and rear in the 17th century. The building was re-fronted in the late 18th century and underwent restoration in the 19th and 20th centuries. The farmhouse is timber framed, with exposed framing on the left-hand return front featuring whitewashed brick infill, while the front has red and blue brick cladding. The barn has galleted Bargate stone plinths with weatherboarding above. Both structures have plain tiled roofs, with the main house having a half-hipped roof and the barn having a lower half-hipped roof.

The entrance front of the house is two storeys high, featuring rebuilt ridge stacks to the right of centre and on the right side of the street wing, with an end stack at the rear of the street wing. The house has four framed bays, with four 19th-century three-light windows on the first floor and three three-light windows on the ground floor, all under cambered heads. There is a 20th-century door, which is panelled and part glazed, located to the right of centre, sheltered by an open gabled porch hood supported by braces.

On the street front, there is some herringbone brick infilling and two casement windows on the first floor. The barn to the right features three ground floor windows with shutters, loft doors on the first floor to the left and right, and stable doors located to the left and centre right.
