Description
This is a bridge over the River Wey, located on the northeast side of the village green in Tilford. It dates back to the 13th century and was likely constructed by the Monks of Waverley Abbey. The bridge is made of local rubble-stone, with thin slabs forming the voussoirs of the arches. It features six visible arches, with a seventh arch buried in the bank, identifiable by a cutwater and buttress. The arches rise in height and span towards the center, with the right-hand side arch being elliptical and edged with brick. The upstream side has "keeled" diamond-shaped cutwaters, while the downstream side has rounded cutwaters over keeled plinths. This bridge is part of a series built over the Wey by the Monks and is a significant feature of the village green. It is also a scheduled Ancient Monument, listed as Surrey Ancient Monument No. 141.
