Description
The property comprises a farmhouse and attached barn, dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, with the barn being a later addition. The construction is of stone rubble with a slate roof. The south-east elevation of the farmhouse is two storeys and five bays, with the first bay being a later addition. To the left of the farmhouse is an eight-bay barn, with a four-bay barn forming a return wing, and a stable at the end. Most windows feature timber lintels and casements, but the second and third bays on the ground floor have double-chamfered-cross-mullioned windows with hollow-chamfered mullions. The fifth bay has a large casement window, with a blocked cross-mullioned window to its right. A gabled porch with a 20th-century timber and glass front provides access to the farmhouse, with a separate entrance to the first bay. Cross-axial and projecting gable-end stacks feature bases with set-offs and shafts with roll-moulded caps. The barn has a segmental-headed entrance, with a blocked window and entrance to the left, and a plaque displaying a wheatsheaf and the inscription "18 C 34/WC”. The return barn also has a segmental-headed entrance. The stable's gable-end has quoins and a ball finial; its entrance, flanked by windows, has a cornice and a plaque depicting a horse above, flanked by uprights with a relief dagger and branch and surmounted by a cornice; a loading door is positioned above. On the north-east return, a two-bay wing is positioned to the right of the stack, featuring three cross-mullion windows, and a narrow light with a high transom to the right of the stack. A projecting gable-end stack is also present. The rear elevation features two projecting gabled bays. The first has an inserted window next to the stack, and the second contains three cross-mullioned windows and a cellar light. The third bay contains an entrance, a window in the former entrance position with a datestone above reading "BBI/1716.” A blocked segmental-headed entrance is visible on the barn, alongside entrances and a window to the right, and another to the gable end of the return barn. A later outshut, under a catslide roof, is located on the south-west return. A garden wall runs along the north-east and south-east sides of the front garden. Gates adjoining the house, and to the middle of the south-east wall, are supported by piers with ball finials, one of which is missing. The interior of the house was not inspected, but it is reported to contain stone fireplaces and a staircase with turned balusters.
