Description
Nos 86 and 88 Ockford Road are a pair of cottages dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, with some alterations. They are constructed from timber-frame with painted brick infill and some rubblestone, topped with a plain tile roof. The cottages are two storeys high and consist of two cells. Each cottage features a 19th-century board door with four vertical arched panels, leading to a three-light casement window that has small panes, with the top panes displaying cusped heads. The first floor has exposed timber framing with square panels, and the wall posts are straight-braced to the wall plate. The windows on this floor are similar to those below but are shorter, and there are two skylights present. A large central stack is set forward of the ridge. Although the interior was not inspected, it has been recorded to contain reused timbers, arched upper tension braces in the square-panelled left-hand wall of No 88, with the truss having three posts between the tie-beam and collar, and other trusses featuring raking queen struts clasped through the purlins.
