Description
Fernbank is a house that has been converted into four flats. It was built in the early 19th century and later subdivided in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays.
The central entrance door consists of six raised and fielded panels and is topped by an ornamental overlight. The doorcase has panelled reveals and fluted columns that support an entablature. On either side of the door, there is a tripartite window with a sash that has glazing bars, flanked by four-pane sidelights. The first floor has three sashes with glazing bars, and all windows are adorned with flat brick arches and projecting sills.
The ground floor is partially covered by a verandah supported by square-sectioned wooden posts, which are interspersed with wooden basket arches featuring sun-bursts in the spandrels. The roof of the verandah is swept and leaded. The eaves overhang the hipped roof. On the right side of the building, there is a tripartite window similar to the front, along with a sash window with glazing bars above it. There is a straight joint between the main part of the building and a lower block with a hipped roof on the right.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is reported to retain its original staircase.
