Description
Willinghurst Farm House is a house that dates from the early 16th century, possibly the late 15th century, with a mid-16th century cross wing to the south and 20th-century extensions to the front left. The building is timber framed, with a colourwashed brick frame exposed in the center, a close-stud frame with sandstone rubble infilling on the cross wing, and a tile-hung gable. The rear features brick and sandstone block. The roofs are plain tiled, with a Horsham slab roof over the cross wing to the south.
The house has two storeys and includes cross ridge stacks to the left of center, a central cross ridge stack, and a crow-stepped double stack on the south side of the cross wing. It has four framed bays, with three 4-light leaded casements on the first floor and two 10-light mullioned and transomed windows below. The central double doors, featuring turned balusters set in glass, are sheltered by a shallow hipped hood on scrolls. The cross wing has one 2-light window on each floor, with an attic window in the gable.
The right-hand return front has two hipped dormers and two windows on the first floor, along with one window on the ground floor. There is a door to the left under a hipped porch supported by wood. At the rear, the frame is more completely exposed, showing tension bracing on the first floor. Inside, there are substantial amounts of framing visible, including some close studding.
