Description

Madgehole Farm House is a house dating from the late 16th century to the 17th century, with additions from the 18th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame with a whitewashed rubblestone plinth and cladding on the ground floor, and whitewashed brick and render on the exposed frame above, topped with a plain tiled roof. The house has a four-bay frame across the rear and a parallel range to the front left. There is a 20th-century gabled bay to the right of center and a 19th-century wing projecting to the front left, creating an L-shaped plan.

The building is two storeys high, with a corbelled end ridge stack to the right and tall multiple corbelled stacks from the 17th century to the left of center on the rear range. The first floor of the parallel range has one leaded casement window, while the old range set back to the right has two first floor diamond-pane casements. There are two ground floor windows to the right. The gable to the right of center jetties over a cove and features one first floor and one ground floor window. A pentice roof across the left of center has a 20th-century ribbed door with flanking lights underneath.

To the left, there is a half-hipped and gablet wing with two first floor and three ground floor casements on the return wall. The right-hand return front gable end has two first floor windows and thin bracing. The roof has ogee struts over a queen-post structure. The rear displays diagonal and curved tension bracing with irregular fenestration. Additionally, there is a single-storey weatherboarded range of buildings at right angles to the projecting front wing, which is of no special interest.
