Description

Basket Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with 20th-century extensions. It has a timber frame built on a brick plinth, with whitewashed brick infill and whitewashed brick extensions. The first floor on the right is tile hung, and the roofs are tiled, with a hipped roof to the left. The house has a T-shaped plan, with a cross wing projecting to the right. It is two storeys high, featuring a corbelled stack to the rear left, and a corbelled ridge stack to the right of centre. The left side has three framed bays with thin timber bracing on the first floor. There are three leaded diamond-pane casement windows on the first floor, covered by pentice hoods, and two similar windows on the ground floor, also under pentice hoods. The cross wing has one diamond-pane first floor window under a tile pentice, and one six-light window below that wraps around the corner. A door is located on the left side of the main range, under a pentice roof porch. It has group value, reflecting its contribution to the character of the area.
