Description

Maplewood Cottages is a former farmhouse that has been divided into two homes. It dates back to the 16th century, with 19th-century extensions. The building features a timber frame, clad in sandstone rubble and red brick at the bottom, with club tile hanging above. There is a sandstone block extension on the left, with timber framing above that has roughcast pebbledash infill. The roof is plain tiled and hipped, with a gablet on the right.

The left wing has two storeys, while the centre and right sections are single storey with an attic. There is an inserted stack to the right of centre and another at the right end, with a side stack on the left wing. A small gabled leaded dormer is located to the centre-left, and there is a through-eaves gable on the right. A pentice runs across the ground floor on the left, with bay windows on the ground floor to the left of centre and to the right.

The door for No. 1 is located to the right under the pentice and has a brace support. The door for No. 2 is situated to the centre right at the base of the stack, in a gabled trellis porch with a "Tudor" style head. A moulded bressumer is present over the ground floor of the wing, along with tension bracing and a buttress at ground level. There is one leaded window on the first floor at the end and one ground floor window in the return wall. The left-hand return front is tile hung above a sandstone rubble ground floor. The rear is also tile hung, featuring a gabled dormer and a blocked door to the left.

Inside No. 1, the ceiling frame on the ground floor is visible, and some wall frames are exposed.
