Description
The barns at Pittance Farm consist of two barns and attached stables, dating from the 17th century for the barns and the 19th century for the stables. The northern barn is timber framed and clad in galleted sandstone, topped with a half-hipped plain tiled roof. The eastern barn is also timber framed, standing on a brick plinth with brick infill on the ground floor and galleted sandstone infill above, all under a plain tiled roof. The stables are constructed from timber and brick, featuring a plain tiled hipped roof. The two barns are positioned at right angles to each other, with the stable range creating a courtyard.
The northern barn has stable-style doors at both ends, along with double weatherboarded doors to the right of the center. There are two narrow "breathers" to the right of the doors and four to the left. Inside, the barn has four framed bays with windbracing in the center bay and a queen-strut clasped purlin roof. The eastern barn features stable doors alternating with fixed casement windows, and there are three fixed casements on the first floor at the rear. The stables at the end are not of special interest.
