Description
The range of outbuildings at the north-east end of the yard to number 52 Downing Street is from the 18th century and later. This L-shaped block includes an east-west range that incorporates the remains of a hop kiln, which belonged to the Nash family, known for hop planting in Farnham. The north-south range has a gable end facing the car park, with the side facing down the yard to Downing Street featuring a partly open ground floor. The walls are clad in red brick and have a dentil eaves cornice. The roof is tiled and gabled, with timber framing visible in the north gable end facing the car park. The wall to the east is made of red brick, while the south gable end is tile-hung. The east-west wing has an old tile roof and a brick dentil eaves cornice. The south-facing wall is constructed of iron stone rubble, and the north-facing wall is made of brick and clunch. There is a rounded brick projection from the former kiln at the west end. This building is listed for its local historical interest and its prominent position in relation to the car park and nearby listed buildings, including numbers 50, 51, and 52. All the listed buildings on the east side from 44 to 57A form a group, with numbers 50, 51, 51A, and 52, along with this range of outbuildings, forming a smaller group within the main street group.
