Description

The boundary walls to the kitchen garden and garden to the east and northeast of The Grange are 18th-century structures. They enclose various plots, including a kitchen garden to the south of the east enclosure, an orchard to the north of the north enclosure, and a garden to the west of the house. The boundary wall for the kitchen garden runs along Castle Hill from the southeast corner of the east enclosure to the group of houses at the corner of Castle Hill and Old Park Lane. This wall is made of brick, features brick capping, and has brick buttresses at intervals. It includes an arched opening with a wrought iron gate and an overthrow. Along Old Park Lane, there is a similar brick wall with brick capping, which has a small gateway at the east end and a wider gateway at the west end. Another wall, which is much rendered and altered and in poor condition, encloses the orchard to the north. In the garden plot to the west of the house, there is a low brick wall that extends west from the northwest corner of the house, featuring a wrought iron gate with a scroll and bar pattern.
