Description
The garden walls to the gardens east and north of The Grange are a series of formal enclosures that likely remain in their original form. The most significant feature is the main walled enclosure to the east of the house, which is surrounded on all sides by an 18th-century brick wall topped with brick capping.
The wall at the east end includes square panelled brick gate piers with moulded stone caps and a decorative wrought iron gate from the early 18th century, featuring a bar and scroll pattern with a pyramid scroll overthrow at the center. This gateway is flanked by two bays of blank brickwork, with smaller round-headed openings on either side that have early 18th-century wrought iron grilles. These side grilles and the central gateway provide views of Farnham Park across the road.
There is another gateway with a wrought iron gate and overthrow in the north wall of this enclosure, as well as a gateway in the corresponding bay of the south wall, which currently has no gate. Additionally, a further gateway with a gate is located in the west wall, south of the house. In the west wall, to the right of the house, there is a gateway leading into the subsidiary enclosure to the north, which is flanked by brick gate piers but currently has no gate. The west wall of this subsidiary enclosure features recesses at either end, with the left-hand recess containing a small wrought iron grille.
