Description
Deans Knowe is an earlier 17th century two-storey timber-framed cottage, with a single-storey addition from the early 19th century at the northwest end and a 20th-century addition above it on the first floor. Inside, the walls and partitions consist of squarish timber-framed panels with braces, and there is a windbrace roof. A brick fireplace is located in the northern wall, and the earlier 19th-century ground floor end room features moulded plaster ceiling motifs. The exterior has brick walls on the ground floor and modern applied timber-framing on the first floor, particularly towards the southeast end, with these later additions attributed to Harold Falkner. The cottage has leaded casement windows and each long elevation consists of four bays. The northern elevation includes a two-storey gabled brick porch, also added by Falkner, and the external wall of Falkner's first floor addition is clad in weatherboarding.
