Description
River Mist Cottage is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century, which has undergone extensive alterations and additions in the 19th and 20th centuries, including its conversion into cottages. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, painted and partly stuccoed, with some timber-framing and rubblestone. It features a plain tile roof and stands two storeys high with three bays and side outshuts. The central bay has a tile-hung gable and some timber-framing, while the left bay and outshut are made of rubblestone.
The windows throughout are 20th-century diamond-paned casements, located on the ground floor beneath segmental arches. The plinth is partly made of rubblestone. The central bay is stuccoed with painted timber-framing and has a three-light window on each floor. The right bay features a board door under a shallow segmental arch, with a three-light window on each floor and a platband. The left bay previously mirrored the right but now has a two-light window instead of a door. Each outshut has a two-light window with timber-framing above, with the left outshut's framing being a 20th-century addition.
There are stacks at the ends of the main range and one on the ridge to the left of centre. At the rear, the central bay displays mid-rail, some studs, straight tension braces, and other painted posts, along with doors leading to the left outshut and right bay. A 20th-century addition on the left is not of special interest. The interior has not been inspected.
