Description

The Unitarian Chapel and caretaker's cottage, built in 1789 and later altered and added to, is located on the east side of Meadrow in Godalming. The building features red-brown brick in English bond, with the chapel's exterior finished in stucco that mimics ashlar stone. It has a plain tile roof. The cottage is two stories tall, while the chapel is a single tall storey. The structure has four bays, with the left-hand bay serving as the caretaker's cottage, separated from the chapel by a straight joint.

The chapel includes a plinth, rendered raised quoins, and a gabled porch positioned between the two left bays. This porch features a plinth and a round-arched door with six flush panels. The chapel also has cyma-reversa moulded kneelers, ashlar coping, and a gable cross. There are three full-height, round-arched windows with glazing bars, and the lower part of the left window serves as a double door with tall, glazed, round-arched top panels. The cottage has rendered coved eaves and a door with six flush panels (the top two being glazed) set in a wood architrave, located under a canopy to the right of a three-light 20th-century window on each floor, with the lower window having a segmental-brick arch.

The entire building has a hipped roof, featuring a cross-ridge stack above the porch and two stacks at the left end. There is a weather-boarded addition at the left end, which is not of special interest. Inside, the two right-hand bays of the chapel serve as the worship area, featuring a bench around the walls and a gallery over the left-hand bay, supported by a plain panelled front and two plain columns.
