Description

The wall to the front of The Almshouses was built in 1622 for Richard Wyatt. It is made of orange-red brick in English bond and is approximately 1.5 metres tall. The wall features triangular-section coping with a cogged course below and a flat brick course above. It runs parallel to the almshouse range and has a gateway in the center, flanked by later stone-capped piers. At both ends of the wall, there are square-section piers, and short lengths of wall return towards the ends of the almshouse range, which formerly concealed privies that are no longer present. Other nearby walls in the same style are from the 20th century and are not of special interest.
