Description

Catteshall Grange is a house dating back to the 17th century, significantly altered in the early 19th century and again in the 20th century. It is built of bargate rubble stone with red brick dressings, with the front facade being of red brick in Flemish bond. The roof is covered in plain tiles. The house is two storeys high, with a cellar, and has a rectangular plan with rear wings. A stepped podium and a hipped porch lead to the central doorway, which features a 19th-century four-panel door with arched and glazed top panels and a two-pane overlight, all within a wooden architrave. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within flat-gauged brick arches and projecting sills. The tops of segmental-arched cellar windows are visible. The roof is hipped with two tabled stacks at the rear. The rear of the house has various 19th and 20th-century windows in brick quoined surrounds, with 17th-century style brick surrounds to former openings on the right-hand side. A central square projection and paired hipped roofs are also present on the rear. The returns display brick quoins at angles and to former openings, using bricks of a 17th-century type, stepped eaves, and a 20th-century conservatory on the left return, which is not considered to be of particular architectural interest. The interior has not been inspected.
