Description

The Roman Catholic Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows, built in 1808, is a small rectangular chapel featuring a stone porch on the southwest side. It has voussoired round-headed windows and a simple interior. Attached at right angles is a single-storey, three-bay cottage that was formerly the priest's house, which is harled. The chapel is located just south of the former Ford of Tornahaish, close to the Old Military Road, and has a boulder base course.

The northeast elevation shows a window at the advanced gable of the chapel on the right, with the cottage to the left featuring a central door and flanking windows. The southwest elevation includes the chapel porch set back on the left and another window on the right. There are out-of-character additions to the northwest of the chapel and the southeast of the cottage.

The chapel has small pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows, a modern window on the northeast side, and the rear cottage windows have been enlarged to bipartites with plate glass glazing. The chapel is roofed with red slates, while the cottage has grey slates and cast iron rooflights. Both buildings feature coped ashlar stacks with thackstanes and cans, and ashlar-coped skews.

Inside, the chapel has a very simple interior with the original stone altar facing liturgical east, a wooden tabernacle, and decorative cast iron altar rails. The seating consists of simple timber pews with panelled backs, and there is a boarded timber wall to the southwest with an integral pew.
