Description
Siloh Presbyterian Church is a small chapel built in 1813, facing the road. It is constructed of stone with a scored-rendered finish and has a hipped roof covered with artificial slate. The main chapel features two full-height round-headed windows with tooled sills and moulded surrounds that include a keystone. A moulded date plaque reading 'Siloh 1813' is located between the windows, which have been fitted with replaced glazing. At each end of the chapel, there are doorways with rusticated surrounds and replaced boarded doors.
Attached to each end of the chapel, though not symmetrically, are lean-tos. The left lean-to serves as the Sunday School and has a separate doorway with a similar design and a small pane window with a moulded surround. The right lean-to has further doorways and windows and is reputedly a former dwelling for the minister. A continuous moulded eaves band runs across the entire front, and the lean-tos feature rusticated quoins that match the main door surrounds. The Sunday School wing has a deep plinth and side casement windows, while the rear retains original 6/6 pane sash windows.
Inside, the chapel has a three-sided gallery with a wide-panelled front and a central clock, supported by slender cast iron columns. The seating consists of raked pews on each floor. There are part-glazed entrance lobbies with 4-panelled doors on either side of the platform at the front. The central pulpit is flanked by a high arched panelled reredos with an inscription painted above, and there is no set fawr. The rear of the chapel is illuminated by part blanked out 8-pane windows. Boarded stairs lead up to the gallery at the front. The interior of the Sunday School/Vestry wing features a boarded dado and a fireplace in the side wall that was formerly shared with the chapel.
