Description

Bronydd Baptist Chapel is a two-storey, L-shaped building dated to the 18th century. The chapel is built into a hillside, with a cottage situated at the base of the slope. The building is slate-roofed, with a rubble plinth visible at the base. The cottage has rubble end walls that include projecting chimney stacks. The lower portion of the cottage's front wall is constructed of rubble and likely replaced a former timber-frame structure. The upper floor retains square-panel framing. Windows are largely small timber casements with 20th-century glazing, and a part-glazed door is sheltered by a plain hood. The cross range that forms the chapel has a stone-tile roof and weatherboarded side walls above the high plinth. The gable end of the chapel is rendered and features a gabled porch. The chapel’s fenestration is similar to that of the cottage.

The cottage interior contains substantial jowelled wall posts and roof trusses, along with exposed chamfered beams and some exposed wall framing. The chapel interior is plain, featuring large tie beam trusses which are partially exposed beneath a more recent boarded ceiling at collar level. A simple boarded reading desk is situated at the south end, accessed by steps.
