Description

This mid-19th century former dairy was originally built for George Marshall, likely as part of Broadwater House, and is now an outbuilding associated with Dairy Cottage. The building is constructed of bargate rubble stone with dressings of raised red bricks incorporating grey headers. It has a plain tile roof and is one storey high with a loft, comprising three bays by one. The windows have triangular heads to their lights with lozenge-patterned glazing bars. A central battened board door is set within a chamfered wood frame and segmental-arched surround, with vents at its base and top. Flanking this are three-light windows. The rear elevation has a chamfered plinth and two three-light windows, flanking what was formerly a flue. The left return side features a three-light window alongside a single-light window to the gable, both with bargeboards. The right return side has a door corresponding to the front door to the right, and another unvented door to the gable, again with bargeboards. Inside, the space is divided into two rooms; the front room has stone shelves and traces of former wire mesh at the windows, while the rear room shows evidence of a former fireplace at the rear wall.
