Description
Broadwater Cottage is a Grade II listed cottage dating from the early 17th century. It features a two-bay design with an end chimneystack and has a late 17th or early 18th century L-wing that was refenestrated in the 20th century. The original part of the cottage is timber framed, showcasing exposed box framing with curved tracery and painted brick infill, while the later L-wing is constructed of painted brick. The roof is tiled and includes end brick chimneystacks.
The original section has two casement windows with leaded lights, and the L-wing has one casement window. There is a porch at the angle of the L and a lean-to extension on the left side. The rear elevation features similar windows, including one on the ground floor with a cambered head. Inside, the original part of the house contains an open fireplace with a wooden bressumer that has a lambs tongue stop, along with a salt niche and a spine beam with a one and a half inch chamfer and lambs tongue stop. The L-wing also has an open fireplace with a bressumer that features a run-out stop. The brickwork shows signs of wear, likely from knife sharpening. The cottage has a plank door and a queen post roof.
