Description

Barhatch is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a timber frame that is clad in red and blue brick, with red brick extensions on the right side and some tile hanging at the rear. The roof is plain tiled, hipped with a gablet over the older section and hipped to the right, while the rear and left pitches are covered with Horsham slabs. The building has a T-shaped plan, with extensions that project to the front and rear on the right side.

It stands two storeys tall and has diagonal brick dentils along the eaves of the old range, a plat band, and a moulded brick eaves string-course on the right extension. There is a cross ridge stack located to the right of the centre on the old range, with additional stacks at the front and rear of the extensions. The first floor of the old range features two leaded casement windows, while there are two cambered head windows below. The entrance door, which has six panels, is situated to the right under the main stack in a hipped roof porch supported by wooden posts at the angle of the extensions. On the left side of the extensions, there is one three-light "cross" type leaded casement window on each floor beneath a gauged brick head, along with one blocked window to the right. The left return front includes a dormer at the centre and a half-hipped wing at the rear. Inside, there is an old oak arched door surround, and the ceiling and wall frames are exposed.
