Description

The Cottage is a house that dates from the 17th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 18th and early 19th centuries, around 1830. It has a timber frame with whitewashed brick cladding on the front left, while the right side features brick extensions, also whitewashed, and red brick to the left, all beneath a tile-hung first floor on the return front. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles on the left of the center, with Horsham slabs on the roofs to the right and left.

The building has an L-shaped plan, with the older section located to the left of center, which was refaced in the 18th century. There is an early 19th-century double-gabled range projecting to the right, and a later 19th-century extension set back to the left. Two diagonal 19th-century stacks are located to the right, topped with dentilled detailing, while older stacks are found to the left and rear.

The house is two storeys high, featuring a plinth to the left, a plat band over the ground floor, and another at the base of a parapet that obscures three hipped roofs. There are two first-floor windows at different levels; one is a three-light window with triple arched leading, while the left-hand window is raised and breaks into the plat band. Below this, there is a similar window to the left and a 3/4-glazed door to the right, positioned at the angle with the extensions, which has margin tracery. A former door to the right of center has been blocked.

The double-gabled range to the right has one cambered head window on each floor of both gables. The first-floor windows feature three arched leaded lights, while the larger windows below have mullions and transoms, with hexagonal and diamond-pattern tracery. There is also a single-storey extension on the left-hand return front, set back, which includes a door at the end. Stacks are located to the left.
