Description
The Railings and Gates Lodge to the Welsh School, built around 1857 and likely designed by architect Henry Clutton, is a one and a half storey structure made of ragstone with limestone quoins and dressings. It features a tile roof with coped verges at the gable ends and gabled dormers. The lodge has two bays with ogee-headed windows that contain casements. A carved cornice at the eaves serves as corbels for the dormers. There is a segment-headed door on the return side facing the gates, which is sheltered by a tiled roof verandah supported by three stop-chamfered stone posts. In front of the lodge, railings connect to cast-iron gates adorned with Welsh dragons and the inscription "St David's School." The lodge also has an extruded chimney at the rear with stunted ragstone stacks.
