Description

The John Hodges Vault is located in St Mary's Churchyard in Stanwell and dates from the late 18th century. It is a tall stone altar tomb set on a stepped plinth, which currently lacks railings. The sides of the tomb are adorned with reed pilaster strips. It features a cornice and ramped capping, which likely originally supported an urn. The inscription on the tomb is partly illegible but mentions Sir Peter Nugent, whose widow John Hodges married.
