Description
North Lodge with adjacent gatepiers, built around 1840 by John Dobson, features squared stone with tooled-and-margined ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The cast-iron gates complement the structure. The lodge has a one-storey elevation facing the drive, consisting of three gabled bays. The central bay includes a porch with a panelled door set in a chamfered surround, topped with a triangular head and hoodmoulds. The flanking bays, with the left bay set back, contain two-light mullioned windows fitted with small-paned casements. The gables are coped and feature moulded kneelers, corbelled-out finials, and low pyramidal caps. The stacks on the ridges of the central and right bays have corbelled swept caps. The right side of the lodge shows two similar windows and an eaves cornice supported by moulded corbels.
The adjacent gate screen consists of four piers with chamfered plinths and corbelled-out pyramidal caps. The central double gates and the flanking pedestrian gates are adorned with foliate tops on the standards and dogbars. A short wall on the left connects to the lodge, while a wall on the right returns to join a similar end pier.
