Description
The entrance lodge to Cilwendeg, built around 1830, is a single-storey structure made of stucco with hipped slate roofs. It has a T-shaped plan and features corniced stacks at the rear of both the front range and the rear wing. The front facade has three bays, with plain pilasters at the corners framing a recessed central entry that contains a six-panel door with an overlight above. The lodge has a raised plinth and an eaves band, and it includes 12-pane sash windows in square-headed recesses on either side of the door, as well as on the north end wall and the north side of the wing. There are blank windows of similar design on the south end wall and the west rear wall of the wing, with the plinth set back at the window recesses.
The railings feature a quadrant running northwest to an ashlar terminal pier and include part of the original entrance screen, a length of rails, and main gates with two similar piers. The railings have low ashlar coping and spearhead rails topped with cast-iron spears. The high ashlar piers have moulded bases, broad cornices, and two-step caps. The main gates are designed with similar rails and dog-bars, along with ramped top-rails and mid-rails that feature cast-iron roundels. The two lodges and the complete set of railings were previously listed as two separate items.
