Description

No 3 Cilwendeg Lodge is an entrance lodge built around 1830 for Cilwendeg. It is a single-storey structure made of stucco, designed in a T-plan with hipped eaves roofs. The lodge features a corniced stack at the rear of the front range and a truncated stack at the rear of the rear wing. The front has three bays, with plain pilasters at the corners framing a recessed central entry that includes a 6-panel door and a traceried overlight. The building has a raised plinth and an eaves band. There are 12-pane sash windows in square-headed recesses on either side of the door, as well as on the north end wall and the north side of the rear wing. The south end wall and the rear end of the wing have blank, similar recessed windows. The plinth is set back at the window recesses.

The railings include a quadrant running northeast to an ashlar terminal pier and a larger part of the original entrance screen, which consists of a length of rails, main gates with two similar piers, and an additional length of rails that create the current entrance way. The railings feature low coping made of ashlar and spearhead rails with cast-iron spears. There are high ashlar piers with moulded bases, broad cornices, and two-step caps. The main gates have similar rails and dog-bars, with ramped top-rails and a mid-rail adorned with cast-iron roundels. The two lodges and the complete set of rails were previously listed as two separate items.
