Description

Castle Malgwyn Lodge is an entrance lodge dating from around 1844, constructed from cut Cilgerran stone with a slate roof. It is designed in the Jacobean style and features one storey plus an attic. The building has a plinth, a moulded cornice above the ground floor, and an attic coped parapet with curved shaped gables on each front. The rear gable is flanked by tapering corniced stone stacks, although the left stack has been cut down. The south, east, and west gables have square windows fitted with 20th-century plate glass and small moulded cornices. The north gable displays ornate carved Gower arms, which are currently obscured by a hotel advertisement.

On the south front, there is a prominent canted bay with a Cilgerran stone base and 2-3-2-light windows featuring transoms, which may be replacements, along with a 20th-century plywood fascia. Historical photographs reveal that the lodge originally had Jacobean strapwork cresting. The east side includes a door to the left within a moulded surround, along with an attached wall featuring a similar doorway. The north side has two long narrow transomed windows. At the west end, there is an attached single-storey outbuilding made of cut stone, which has a plinth and a low-pitched corrugated iron roof.
