Description

The Castle Malgwyn Bridge is a road bridge dating from 1799, built over a dry canal. It is constructed of rubble stone with a flat slate parapet. The bridge features a single, wide, shallow arch built with cut stone voussoirs and an arch ring. Attached cast-iron keystones are present at the east and west ends; the east plaque is marked ‘Castle Malgwyn Bridge 1799’ and the west plaque reads ‘Sir Benjn Hammet 1799’. Both keystones display a castle crest above and crossed cannons below. The bridge is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
