Description

The entrance lodge to Cilwendeg, built around 1830, is a single-storey structure with a T-plan layout, finished in stucco. It features hipped eaves roofs, a corniced stack at the rear of the front range, and a truncated stack at the rear wing. The front has three bays with plain pilasters at the corners framing a recessed central entry, which includes a six-panel door and a traceried overlight. There is a raised plinth and an eaves band. On either side of the door and on the north end wall, there are 12-pane sash windows set in square-headed recesses, while the north side of the rear wing also has similar windows. The south end wall and the rear end of the wing have blank windows in similar recessed styles, with the plinth set back at the window recesses.

The railings include a quadrant that runs northeast to an ashlar terminal pier and a larger part of the original entrance screen, along with a length of rails and main gates flanked by two similar piers. There is also a further length of rails that has been altered for the current entrance. The railings feature low coping and spearhead rails with cast-iron spears. The high ashlar piers have moulded bases, broad cornices, and two-step caps. The main gates are adorned with similar rails and dog-bars, with ramped top-rails and a mid-rail that includes cast-iron roundels. The two lodges and the complete set of rails were previously listed as two separate items.
