Description
The entrance gate, piers, and walls at Ciliauwen Lodge date from the 19th century. The broad single wooden gate features spearhead wooden rails and dog-bars, with a bottom rail, mid rail, and a down-curved top rail, all supported by iron strap hinges. The gatepiers are made of tooled stone and have rusticated surfaces, with plinths, caps, and distinctive finials consisting of four square curved-sided pyramidal blocks. Each end of the serpentine-curved wall on either side has a similar gate-pier. The wall is constructed from five courses of slates stacked vertically, with each course separated by a horizontal course of slates. The top of the wall is finished with random blocks of white quartz.
