Description
No 4 Cilwendeg Lodge is an entrance lodge dating from around 1830, constructed of stucco and featuring a single storey with hipped slate eaves roofs. The building has a T-plan layout and includes corniced stacks located at the rear of both the front range and the rear wing. The front facade is three bays wide, with plain pilasters at the corners framing a recessed central entry that has a six-panel door and an overlight. The lodge has a raised plinth and an eaves band. On either side of the door and on the north end wall, there are 12-pane sash windows set in square-headed recesses. The south end wall and the west rear wall of the wing have blank windows that are similar in style. The plinth is set back at the window recesses.
The railings include a quadrant that runs northwest to an ashlar terminal pier and part of the original entrance screen, which consists of a length of rails and main gates with two similar piers. The railings feature low coping and spearhead rails with cast-iron spears. The high ashlar piers have moulded bases, broad cornices, and two-step caps. The main gates are designed with similar rails and dog-bars, ramped top-rails, and mid-rails adorned with cast-iron roundels. The two lodges and the complete set of rails were previously listed as two separate items.
