Description

Shabden Cottages, located at Nos. 9 and 10 on High Road in Chipstead, Coulsdon, are a pair of estate cottages built around 1890 in a domestic revival style. The cottages are constructed of flint with red brick dressings, featuring timber applied above with rendered infill, and have a plain tile roof with central ridge stacks and rear stacks on both sides. The building has two storeys with a gable front on the left and a one-storey attic with a hipped roof on the right. The first floor has four irregular diamond leaded casements, with the outer bays projecting. The entrance to No. 9 is a plank door located in a buttressed lean-to to the right of the gable front, while No. 10 has a glazed door beneath a pent-roofed glazed porch on the right-hand return front.
