Description
Kew Cottages is a pair of cottages located on Workhouse Lane in East Meon. They date back to the 17th century but were refronted and extended to the west in the 19th century. The cottages are timber-framed, with the frame exposed at the rear. The front is made of flint with red brick dressings and patches of 17th-century brickwork. They feature a half-hipped thatched roof with three 20th-century chimneystacks. The cottages are one storey high with attics and have four windows. The attic contains three early 19th-century casements with leaded lights, while the ground floor has two casements set in cambered architraves. The doors are from the 20th century, with No 1 having a thatched weatherhood and No 2 featuring a flat hood on brackets. The rear elevation shows the exposed timber frame and includes two early 19th-century casements with leaded lights. There is a small 20th-century extension to No 1, and No 2 has a brick round-headed blocked doorcase. Inside, No 1 has an open fireplace and a central spine beam with exposed floor joists.
