Description

Shabden Park is a country house built in 1870 by E M Barry, now divided into separate residences. It is constructed of stone with hipped plain tile roofs and substantial ridge stacks. The building follows a square plan with an extension to the north side and rises two storeys with an attic space containing arched dormers. The south front is symmetrical, composed of five bays with two-storey angle bays at each end. A large arched wooden porch, sheltered by a pent roof, extends across the central three bays. Sash windows are present throughout, on both floors. The main (east) front features a projecting three-bay entrance section to the left, topped with a large segmental open pediment featuring a shell tympanum and scroll brackets. A projecting first-floor window is positioned to the right, resting on stepped brackets. Inside, a fireplace surround and a ceiling painting are notable in a ground-floor corner room located in the southwest of the house.
