Description
Court Cottage and The Old Manor are located on Quality Street in Merstham. Originally one residence, the building consists of two parts. The southern section, known as The Old Manor, is a timber-framed house likely dating from the 17th century, which has been re-fronted in red brick with an 18th-century first-floor band. It features two plastered gables, with the bay beneath the left gable flanked by pilasters. The roof is tiled and has old bargeboards on the second gable, while modern casement windows have been installed.
Court Cottage is primarily an early 20th-century addition designed to complement the older structure by Paxton Watson. It is two storeys high with two windows, the right one extending into a gable. The cottage is constructed of stone rubble with red brick dressings and has a half-hipped, tiled roof. The entrance is located under a cornice hood supported by brackets. The Old Manor also includes a set-back pent porch on the left side and an added ground-floor canted bay.
The Old Manor, Court Cottage, North Cottage, St Nicholas Cottage, Priors' Mead, and the Walls and Gate Piers to the southeast of Priors' Mead form a cohesive group.
