Description

The Sawpit at Anderson's Builders Yard is a 17th century structure that now forms part of a builders yard. It is a three-bay timber-framed building, with its exterior covered in weatherboarding and some vertical offcuts, topped with a tiled roof. The roof features clasped purlins without a ridgepiece, along with a collar beam and angled queen struts. Diagonal tension braces support the main posts. The first documentary reference to this sawpit dates back to 1780. It is notable as the only surviving sawpit in this part of Surrey, making it a rare example of its kind.
