Description
Nos 1 to 3 Church Street is a house that has been extended and divided, dating from the 16th century with extensions from the 17th century. The building features a timber frame that is exposed on the left side of the first floor, with whitewashed brick infilling over whitewashed brick cladding on the ground floor. The center and right sections are clad in brick, while the left side is weatherboarded. The roofs are plain tiled and step down from the gable to the center range and again to the right. Originally, the house had a T-plan layout with a gabled cross wing on the left and further extensions at both ends.
The structure is two storeys high at the gable, with single storey and attic spaces on the right and center, all under one hipped roof. There is a casement dormer and two gabled dormers. Corbelled multiple stacks are present at the junction of the roofs to the right of center, along with a 20th-century stack on the left side of the wing. The gable features one window on each floor, while the center and right sections have two ground floor windows. There is one 19th-century glazing-bar sash window on the left-hand extension.
The left side (No. 1) has a half-glazed 19th-century door under a transom light and a gabled hood. The left also has a six-panel door, while No. 3 has another door to the right with a flanking light. Inside, there is a deep fireplace and a crown-post roof in the center. At the time of the last survey, No. 3 was undergoing thorough restoration.
