Description

Old Mead is a house dating from the early 17th century, which was extended to the left in the early 20th century. The building features a timber frame that is exposed in small sections on the right-hand return front, with brick and render infilling. The front is clad in 20th-century brick, and there are brick and tile hung extensions. The roof is plain tiled and hipped to the right. The original house is L-shaped with a rear wing and now includes a 20th-century gabled cross wing to the left.

The house has two storeys, with 20th-century stacks featuring diagonal shafts at the junction of the wings, a 17th-century front stack to the left of centre that has been partially rebuilt, and a 17th-century double stack at the right end. The windows are square-pane leaded casements, with four on the first floor and three below. There is one 4-light window on each floor of the gable to the left. A glazed door is located in a porch recess to the right of centre, which has a flat hood and a thin pilaster strip surround.

On the right-hand return front, there is an additional stack and mortar galleting at the eaves. The rear features a gabled wing to the left that projects and is jettied on the first floor, supported by a moulded bressumer and a scroll bracket at the end. There is a parallel range across the rear centre. Inside, some panelling and framing are exposed.
