Description

Stylehurst is a house dating to the late 16th and 17th centuries, with 19th and 20th century additions. The house has a timber frame, now clad in whitewashed roughcast with tile hanging to the rear, and whitewashed brick to the extensions. The roof is covered with Horsham slabs over the original part, plain tiles to the rear, and on the extensions.

The house’s original core dates from the 16th century, with 20th-century extensions to the front and side, and a 17th-century wing to the right end. A substantial rendered stack is located to the left of the centre.

The front has three-light casement windows on the outer sections, a five-light leaded casement window above the centre, and two ground floor windows with tile hoods on scroll brackets. A part-glazed door is situated to the left of centre, also under a similar hood. A square, gable-ended extension to the left projects, featuring a plat band over the ground floor and a three-light window on each floor, with a stack at the junction with the original range.

The right-hand return front has a first floor and two ground floor windows set within a gable end, all with tile hoods on brackets. There are two diamond-pane windows to both the first floor and ground floor to the right. A glazed door is sited between them, also under a gable hood on brackets, with an offset stack to the right and a single-storey extension at the end.

The rear has a tile-hung gable on the right, with an end post visible, a larger gable towards the centre positioned behind a single-storey range.

Inside, the house features lambs tongue stops to the chamfered spine beams, and a queen-post roof with carpenter's marks.
