Description
This barn, now used as a store, is located approximately 50 metres south-east of Sheepbell Farmhouse and is dated 1825 on the tie-beam. It features a timber frame set on a brick plinth, with weather-board cladding and a red tile roof. The barn has a rectangular 7-bay layout oriented east-west, with an aisle on the south side. There are central opposed wagon entrances, one on the south side that has an arch-braced portal beneath a hipped roof. This entrance is flanked by low aisles with catslide roofs; the left aisle includes three doorways and three low windows, while the right aisle features a stable door with small windows beside it, although the right-hand end is covered by an attached pig-house. The barn has a half-hipped roof. The rear wall contains a sliding door for the wagon entrance and an inserted doorway to the left. Inside, the structure consists of a post-and-truss framework made of softwood, with carpenter's marks visible. The angle-braces are pegged to the tie-beams, and there are added horizontal braces. The roof has queen-struts with renewed rafters, and the tie-beam to the left of the centre is inscribed "D L 1825". A loft has been added at the west end, along with an inserted breeze-block partition.
