Description
Sheepbell Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed of hand-made red brick in Flemish bond and features red tile roofs. The building has an approximately L-shaped plan, formed by a main range with a rear wing and various additions.
The farmhouse is two-and-a-half storeys tall and has three first-floor windows. It includes a plinth and a four-course band. The segmental-headed doorway is offset to the left of the centre and features a 19th-century wooden latticed porch. To the left of the doorway are two square segmental-headed 16-pane sashed windows with exposed boxes, along with an added octagonal bay window at the left corner. To the right, there is a single-light window and an added rectangular bay window. The first floor has three segmental-headed 16-pane sashed windows with exposed boxes, one to the left and two to the right, as well as two gabled dormers with two-light casements. The gable chimneys are also notable.
On the left gable wall, there is a 6-pane sash window and a very small window at the first floor, along with two two-light casements in the attic. The rear wing has a parallel addition on the left side, with its rear gable wall featuring two casements at ground floor and one above, all differing in design. A single-storey service extension wraps around the corner and side of the building.
Inside, the left room on the ground floor has three stop-chamfered beams and a brick inglenook fireplace, while the right-hand room has one similar beam and a large brick fireplace, with the central bay altered by the insertion of a staircase. The first-floor rooms above each have a chamfered beam and a fireplace with an iron grate; the left room features a circular hob, while the other has a duck's nest type fireplace. A large beam passes across the front of the chimney breast in the left room, possibly the remains of a smoke hood. Both attic rooms also have fireplaces with similar beams across the front.
