Description
Woodlands Park Hotel, built around 1890 by Rowland Plumbe, is a striking red brick building featuring tile hanging above and half-timbering in the gables. It has plain tiled roofs with tall, star-shaped chimneys and consists of two storeys and an attic beneath gabled and hipped roof dormers. The building has an asymmetrical design with prominent features, including a single-storey bay to the left topped with a terracotta balustrade and a half-timbered gable front bay also to the left. A three-stage tower is positioned to the left of the centre, adorned with stone and brick banding at the top, a stone bracket band, and a pyramidal roof that supports an iron weathervane. To the right of the centre, there is a two-storey angle bay and a gable front bay, along with a projecting gabled wing at the right end. The windows feature a mix of sash designs and diamond wood tracery, with twelve windows on the first floor. A single-storey porte-cochere to the left of centre showcases Jacobean-style piers and pilasters, with double half-glazed doors behind. Inside, the hotel features oak panelled walls, a large carved stone fireplace in the entrance hall, and a glazed ceiling in the hall.
