Description
This barn, now used as a hall, is located approximately 50 meters south-west of Slyfield House and dates back to 1806. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a brick plinth, topped with a red tile roof, along with some modern additions in painted white concrete block. The barn has a rectangular seven-bay layout oriented east-west, with two wagon entrances in the center and an open wagon portal at the east end, which is partitioned from the main structure and provides access to the farmyard.
The north side, facing the farmyard, includes a central porch with boarded doors, arch-braces supporting the lintel, and a hipped roof. There is also a similar porch at the left end of the portal, but without doors. This side has modern lean-to additions of concrete block under catslide roofs, which are not of special interest. The roof is half-hipped at both ends, and the east end wall features a loading door beneath the portal. The south side has a window near each end.
Inside, the barn retains its softwood post-and-truss construction, with arch-bracing on the tie-beams and doorways, and a queen-strut roof. Notably, the east post of the north doorway has inscribed lettering that reads "W.E / W / EDEK / ER 1806" in five lines. The interior remains largely unaltered, except for the addition of an acoustic ceiling over the center bay and a gallery at the west end.
