Description
Charlwood Place is a Grade II listed building located on Norwood Hill Road. It dates from the 16th century and late 17th century, with a 19th-century addition to the southeast. Originally a moated house built by the Saunders family, it was called Saunders Place, and part of the moat still remains. Only the parlour wing from the 16th century survives. The house was rebuilt in the late 17th century, featuring two projecting wings and a central entrance. It is two storeys high, timber-framed with red brick infilling, and has square framing with some curved braces. The projecting wings are adorned with tile-hung gables and the roof is tiled. There are three casement windows and a 19th-century gabled weather porch. The 16th-century parlour wing includes jowl posts and arched braces.
